The ASB had an opening for a Secretary and I go to church with everyone on the council, so it's safe to say I had a little bit of an "in", but out of 18 candidates I got the job, and I am an official member of the ASB as witnessed by my portrait on the poster, and my name tag.
I'm learning a ton at school right now, here's a few things I've discovered. . . . . . .
1st things first I have decided that as far as my learning style goes 3rd times a charm. I have taken Pre-Algebra 3 times over the last decade and I'm now finally really understanding and actually liking the material! I got an A on my first math test this quarter, a feet I have not accomplished . . . um . . . . .ever! Also this is technically my 3rd year of college counting my time at byu-i, and this third time around I think I must have matured some because I'm actually doing my Homework and making it a priority and not totally putting it off to the last minute like normal. And when pondering my life I realized I had to take the written driving test three times before I passed it, and when I was in dance I didn't pick up the routine on the first try, I usually had it down by the 2nd or 3rd explanation. I guess that makes me kinda slow, but better late then never I always say!
2nd- All Woman over the age of 40 that go back to school use a rollie backpack! Upon discussing school supplies with my Mommala, it was suggested by her that I get a back pack that rolls. Well I promptly but the Kibosh on that idea because it was my understanding that packs of that nature are reserved strictly for Woman of a certain age, and I promptly informed my Mother I am not old enough for a rollie backpack. And sure enough I get to school and every "almost" middle aged Woman I saw had a pack on wheels! Literally, every single one I've come across! So HA! I was right!
and
3rd- Chris Rock once said "That's why they call it a Community College, because Anybody from the community can go!" And boy is that ever a literal statement. I can't believe the diversity I see in all of my classes. We got 16-17 yr. olds sitting next to the middle aged rollie pack crew, I got a velour track suit wearing, Louis Vatton bag sporting, latte every morning, and note typer on her mac lady, that sits next to the slightly creepy lumberjack looking boy with a WWJD baseball hat. I got Basketball players in the same group as "Don't Speak much English" Ukrainian Housewives. Boys with baggy Pants next to woman in Mom jeans, it's such an odd mixture of people! Completely fascinating, and it just goes to show, people from different backgrounds can unify when they have one common goal.
Things are great at the Radio Station a few weeks ago I got to fill in for Butch Bear's news hour for like a week and a half, and I got some pretty good feedback. I also got some should I say constructive criticism from a few people. Which leads me to something else I've learned, this being outside of school. Every one's a Critic! I came into class and this kind of crazy guy who's in the flight program at BBCC tells me he heard me on the radio and told me I sounded a little mono-tone when reading a story about a drive by shooting we had the previous week, and informed me I needed a little more emotion! And I was just like who is this guy???? Even if I did sound monotone who made him my radio coach. . . . .right? Anyway, then I went to Walmart one day and waved to this gentlemen I know from Church and the first thing he says to me is "I heard you on the radio. . . . you need to relax!" Apparently he thinks I sound good, but I'm reading too fast and I need to sit back and enjoy it. Now I'm all for critique's I don't expect to be perfect I made a ton of mistakes and flub ups, and I'm sure people will form opinions about my performance, I judge what I hear on the radio all the time, but really the only criticisms I take seriously right now are the ones from my trainer and Boss, because I know for sure they know what they're talking about, and also it's their job. I should probably get used to it, because I guess it seems pretty normal that once you put any kind of work out there for people to see or hear, it gets picked apart. I guess I'm learning to take the rough with the smooth.
In happier news Angie had her baby (did that go by fast for anyone else?) and I became a Quasi-Aunt (Auntie Em to be exact)! HOORAY!!!!!!!!
This is little Qiana Tamara Bates aka Qi Qi, or QT as I will call her! Yeah she's kind of a big deal! She's like pretty much the cutest thing ever, and I can't wait to teach her all about useless things she'll never really need know!
Also I am currently house sitting for some people I house sat for almost 2 years ago. They have this super nice house on the golf course, My Dad dubbed it "The Castle" They are in Italy for 3 weeks and are paying me to eat their food, sleep in their big comfy bed, and occasionally feed their cat Charlie (he's got a pretty big dish, I don't have to fill it very often!)
Charlie is pictured here and he's pretty much my new best friend!
SO yeah things are good, I'm learning, lounging, and lovin' life!
Until next time. . . . . Peace Out!!!!!!

Your posts always make me miss my youth (well, I'm still young but the 17 year old kinda puts a damper on my reckless fun and abandon), will the fun ever cease? I'd never have learned anything with that kind of diversity at the university. I'm obsessed with people watching...obsessed I tell you!
Congrats to your friend and the new addition to her family.
Re: the critics-at least they're listening!
that baby is pretty dang cute! Congrats Auntie Em! ANd I love to listen to you on the radio, you sound great and it makes me feel like I know someone who is famous! :)
I like your radio commentary, so all your critics can stuff it!
But I take offense at the old-lady-rolly-polly-backpack users! I had one when I was 21 in college, come on! Just because I was supremely pregnant and suffering an attack of my MS does not make me a 40+ woman!!!! ;)
I really love the explanation of the diversity in your classes. I had a few "don't speak much enlish Ukranian housewives" in a few of my classes too. They were exciting...
Congrats going back to school! I'm getting ready to take that leap, but I'm kind of scared. I would like a rollie back pack, but I'm only 32:)
